Brazilian Dori Caymmi is an internationally known musician who is respected for formulating his inimitable musical blend of pop, jazz and Brazilian elements. He has recorded many solo albums, albums with ensemble groups, and soundtrack albums. The son of renowned Brazilian composer Dorival Caymmi, he is a two-time Grammy Award winner (for Best Latin Song and Best Latin Samba Recording), and he has been nominated for numerous other Grammy Awards, plus other prominent awards such as Playboy and TV Globo Music Festival.
The new album consists of two great noticeably aspects. The first approach is an organic selection of songs, which Dori played with Paulinho Da Costa and Abraham Laboriel.Paulinho da Costa, one of the greatest Brazilian percussion players, brings the remarkable Brazilian atmosphere to the album.
This is beautiful collection of classic songs by the legendary Broadway duo Richard Rodgers & Oscar Hammerstein, performed by an array of top jazz/pop artists and musicians. Caymmi recorded his excellent album Influencias in 2004, which was nominated for a Latin Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Brazilian album. This album pays tribute to the great artists and composers who have influenced Caymmi over the years. Notably, Caymmi honors his father, legendary Brazilian composer Dorival Caymmi, by recording his father’s songs, “La Vem A Baiana” and “Acontece Que Es Sou Baiana.” Caymmi also records such classic compositions as “Linda Flor,” “Cocapabana, “Berimbau” and “Faceira.” more…
Caymmi recorded this excellent album Contemporaneos in 2003, which was nominated for a Latin Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Brazilian album. The material on this album consists of Caymmi’s choice of contemporary Brazilian songs and composers that includes Caetano Veloso, Ivan Lins, Paulinho da Viola, and Chico Buarque among others. All of the songs are sung beautifully in Portuguese. Caymmi sings on several of these songs, and on some cuts he sings duets with his guest artists. more…
In 1999 he recorded his album, Cinema: A Romantic Vision, for which he received a Grammy nomination for Best Arrangement. This album features Caymmi’s excellent renditions of classic songs and themes from popular movies. Included on this album are Caymmi’s versions of “Pink Panther” (by Henry Mancini), “My Favorite Things” (by Oscar Hammerstein II & Richard Rodgers), “James Bond Main Theme” (by John Barry), “I Believe I Can Fly” (by R.
