1. This Fall
Believe it or not, Joseph and Steve Lukather made “This Fall” within a few minutes! One day, Joseph and Steve were having lunch together in the San Fernando Valley. Joseph wanted to create a song comparable to Day Tripper in simplicity and sound. They went to Steve’s home and formulated a simple yet unique rock song with powerful vocal.
2. Do’ya
When Joseph visited David Paich in the summer of 2008 they created and recorded some ideas for Joseph’s new album. When Joseph got home, he listened to what he worked on and picked out the pieces of the music he felt had inclinations towards the rock genre. They became the B section and the C section. He added an A section along with melody and lyrics. He later realized he wasn’t in love with the B section and turned to his friend, Bobby Kimball, to bring in a new one. However, when the friends recorded back ground vocals Joseph felt something was missing. Producer Joey Carbone and Joseph Williams ask David to sing C section. His piano solo really gave the song a classic rock feel and provided a very satisfying turnout.
3.Angelie
In 2008, Steve Porcaro brought a new song, which was mostly completed. Joseph changed a part of lyrics and added B section. He began to think what kind of woman’s name should be used on this song and eventually picked out “Angelie”. This romantically mellow song was essential to the rock album.
4. Far Away
“Far Away” was originally written for Joseph’s wife, Amy, who was supposed to sing the song; however, the song was always locked away as a demo until Joseph heard it. He immediately got Amy’s permission to change the key and re-record it. This song, truly a ballad, shows Joseph’s emotional tone.
5. Yeah Yeah Yeah
Joseph first started to write this song with his brother, Mark, almost 20 years ago. It had a great chorus and Mark wrote a weird verse to match. Joseph and Mark wrote the song’s lyrics and chorus in the same style that John and Paul would use to write songs together; they combined two different songs to make one song. They re-made “If I seem to wander” from scratch – changing the chorus and melody. Joseph’s daughter Hannah completed the song by finishing the bridge. Joseph kept this song in the family and it turned into a masterpiece!
