My favorite Dori song is “Porto”.
Since I live in Brazil, I can’t go to NY to see the concert, so, if possible, I would like to enter in the contest just for the album.

My favorite Dori’s song is Porto, from the album “Dori Caymmi”/1980.
This song has an ocean mood, I can feel the landscape of a harbor with boats, fishermen and the wind. It’s a masterpiece, with a deep Brazilian feeling.
My favorite Dori song’s is “Alegre Menina” and very others: “Evagelho”, “Desenredo”, “Porto”, “Serra Branca”, “Desafio”…..etc

hard to pick a favorite, but sentimental favorite #1 would be “desenredo”, because i’m an american who married a woman from minas gerais….we “unravelled”, but this song brings back the sad simplicity of my wife & her family…she owns a large piece of my heart, & listening to this song brings her back to me….
even sadder than that, my 2nd choice is “vellho piano”….nana caymmi’s voice has such a plaintiff longing to it….i know exactly the pain she feels when she sings, “tarde de mais”
I am enchanted by so may of Dori Caymmi’s compositions, but one that rides a little higher in my ears is “Velho Piano.” A powerfully building tune that generates passion at every turn. It truly shows Dori as the master of resolve and the king of chordal harmony. I thank God for releasing this musical angel onto this earth. my favorite song by dori is porto. i love all of them. after being a pianist/singer all my life, i was inspired by his guitar playing to pick up a guitar and learn. now that is my main instrument.
It’s hard to pick only one song, but as I have to, it will be “Amazon River”. That opening on strings is for me the best Dori’s arrangement, simply gorgeous! The way the song is developed, with that “matrix” modulation, a la Coltrane, and also the transition between minor and major moods. It’s all perfect!
my favorite dori song is “obsession” because of it’s relentless rythmn and beautiful harmonies and shifting groove. i met dori in L.A some years ago and found him to be a very nice guy!
My favorite song of Dori Caymmi is “Hurricane Country” which was the final song of the great movie “Havana”, this is how my family and myself discovered this great guitarrist, composer, singer from Brazil.
There are so many great songs of Dori Caymmi, I could also mention his great participations with Audio Caviar (a song of Ivan Lins called Comecar de novo).

Because the music line is so, so beautiful, seems to be so simple but it’s very difficult to follow, unless of course, you have Dori’s perfect entonation. Apart from that, the lyrics are also very beautiful, ellaborated and thus, realistic

Dory Caymmi is a great Brazilian musician and composer. I’m Brazilian too. It is difficult to say just one song that I like, but I can say that I love “Alegre Menina”, among others.
