FAKE?, the brainchild of Oblivion Dust’s Ken Lloyd, was born with the concept of having no boundaries, both in terms of music style and live performance. It is this open approach to the creativity in music that has birthed a constantly evolving, truly unique sound. While decidedly a rock band, the electronic, ethereal, and the organic have never been captured as successfully as they are in their release of  “Switching On X.”

Recorded in London with a fresh backing lineup, the record breathes of new life. Driving rock tracks, aggressive beats, and experimental studio elements are all complimented by Ken Lloyd’s varied vocal approach. Following FAKE?’s latest releases, “Songs From Beelzebub” and “Marilyn Is A Bubble” we have seen the band’s style further evolve into one which can truly be called as their own.

FAKE? are also renowned for their brutal and energy-driven live shows. While doing countless headline tours, FAKE? have also opened up for Guns N Roses in Hong Kong (Their first Asian show in almost a decade), and have also played festivals in Japan and South Korea alongside bands such as The Offspring, Weezer, Placebo and The Black Eyed Peas.

Note From Matt:

Thank you so much for checking out my music!  The I WISH EP is a collection of songs I wrote in my cramped NYU dorm room over the past two years.  Seeing them go from homemade demos to this fully-produced collection of music has been so inspiring.  From the daunting task of recording six songs in three days in LA’s The Village Studio to the incredible experience of shooting my first music video, the process has been challenging, fun, and everything in between.  This EP is everything I’ve wished for and more, and I hope you can enjoy my music half as much as I enjoyed making it.  Thanks for listening.

inner-world1Latin Grammy awards winner, Brazilian guitarist, composer and singer, Dori Caymmi, released brand-new album “Inner World.”

The new album consists of two great noticeably aspects. The first approach is an organic selection of songs, which Dori played with Paulinho Da Costa and Abraham Laboriel.

Paulinho da Costa, one of the greatest Brazilian percussion players, brings the remarkable Brazilian atmosphere to the album.

Together they play with bassist, Abraham Laboriel’s, who brings out a sensitive melody, making this album truly distinct.

Contrary to the organic side, Caymmi also recorded tracks with drummer Mike Shapiro, bassist Jerry Watts and pianist Bill Cantos, bringing a more collective band groove to the album. Dori will feature tracks in English in addition to his native language, Portuguese.

The album’s Brazilian induced rhythms will bound to make you sway. The new CD will be available for the first time online at CDBaby.com followed by sales at his shows, including the release party and his tour in the U.S. which will be announced momentarily.

this-fallJoseph Williams: DID YOU KNOW?

“Hakuna Matata’ and “Can You Feel The Love Tonight” are the two best known anthems from Disney’s Lion King. Did you know that it was in fact Joseph Williams who sang the two songs as the adult voice of Simba?

Besides performing songs from the Disney classic, Williams has also composed two songs (Lapti Nek and Ewok Celebrration) from Star Wars VI: Return of the Jedi. A composer of film and drama scores, Joseph Wiliams has proved himself as not only a rock singer but a talented musician.

cci03112009_000011. Solar (Dedications 2)

This song is from miles davis. When she was in Boston in 1956, Miles’ group came to Storyville, where she was playing there for 4 days a week. Miles let her play in his band but when push came to shove, she was too nervous to play well. Miles consoled her and told her to not be scared and related to her by telling her he felt that way when he played with Charlie Parker. Solar has one of the greatest melody, which Toshiko enhances with her skills.

2. Django (Dedications 1)

Django was one of John Lewis famous songs as well as the Modern Jazz Quartet’s favorite tune. Toshiko was impressed by John’s continued support for his band members when she played with him in 1972. Diango was her first song from John Lewis repertoire – a sensitive, melodic and passionate tribute to her good friend.

3. Israel (Dedications 2)

In 1951 right after Toshiko quit Six Lemons she formed her own quartet, with whom she played this song. This song has many great versions like Miles Davis’ version with 9 players or Bill Evans’ trio version.

cci03112009_000034. Don’t Be Afraid, the Clown’s Afraid Too (Dedications 1)

Before Toshiko sang this song, it belonged to renowned bass player, composer and band leader, Charles Mingus, whose band she was a part of. Mingus influenced Toshiko

throughout her career whether it was word of wisdom during first jazz concert in New York or advice to help her when she was feeling down.

5. In Your own Sweet Way (Dedications 2)

Dave Brubeck’s traditional version of In Your Own Sweet Way didn’t appeal to Toshiko in Japan. It wasn’t until she attended one of his concerts did she change her mind. She was impressed when he began play the catchy and beautiful melody so much so she decided to rerecord it and make it her own.
