Bossa Nova

Bossa Nova is a style of music that was created in late 1950s during the period of political change and economical growth. The genre is often referred to as “Brazilian Jazz”, because its core of rhythm is based on samba. Middle and upper class Brazilians formulated the genre in their wealthy neighborhoods along the beaches of Rio de Janeiro. Bossa Nova was composed with signals of love, the beach, and beautiful women. However, in the 1960’s the music became known as protest music during an era of political uproar in Brazil. The music changed from lavish music to the melody of struggling people living in a drought stricken northeastern region of the county. Most of the time Bossa Nova music’s are performed on the nylon string classical guitar, which is known to be played with the fingers than with a pick perhaps relating back to the older rituals.
